Vintage
Sterling Silver
Vanity Jar

Up for auction is a beautiful jar that I believe was once an ink well. However, it could be used as a ring holder, rouge jar, for display or ??

It is made out of a thick glass and has a great cut pattern that is "crispy clear". The lid is made out of solid sterling silver with a gold wash finish on the inside. It slips on and fits very snugly. There is a raised gadroon design that circles the top...simple, but elegant jar that would go well with any collection!!

This was made in Birmingham, England in 1916.

Monogram:  none

Measurements:

Width:      1 5/8"

Height:     1 1/2"

Weight:    65 grams (total)

Marks: {H?DC}  maker mark  {anchor} town mark {lion passant} sterling {r} date mark ~ these marks are rubbed and were seen through a loupe

Condition: The glass is free of cracks, chips, fogging etc. The lid has 2 small/shallow dings on the edge. There are no dents, splits, repairs or holes. I would rate it a 9.8 out of 10...very nice condition for a 92 year old jar :o)

Please see my other auctions for LOTS of sterling & coin silver holloware. I will have some other victorian vanity jars up for sale on Ebay this month, so please keep checking my auctions.
I list new items every Wednesday, Thursday & Friday mornings.

Trouble viewing this item?  you can try the following: put the curser over the spot where the pic should be, then right-click, & from the drop-down menu, choose show picture or if you are on AOL you may want to shrink your AOL browser (don't close it) and open either Internet Explorer or Netscape browser. They are a much larger browser and you shouldn't have a problem.

Payment Terms

Payment may be made by cashier's check, money order, personal check (not to exceed $100.00 unless you get prior approval from me) or PayPal. Please allow ten (10) days for personal checks to clear the bank before shipping (exceptions are made for good feedback ratings).

Payment is due within ten (10) days of auction close. If payment is not received on time, Buyer forfeits all rights to purchase and Seller reserves the right to relist the item for sale. I really don't like to post negative feedback, I would much rather complete a transaction with the original buyer.

Satisfaction

Read my feedback, most customers feel that my items are much better in person than what I described to them on the auction page. I guarantee that what you see in the photos is what you will receive unless otherwise stated. I only make refunds for errors in listings, I do not make them due to buyers remorse. I list all obvious flaws - this does not mean I will catch every single pin head size ding on a 150 year old item. This is what I consider "expected". If I say it has a wavy feel to it and you don't know what that means, email me before bidding. Don't wait until you have received it to say "well, I saw that you said wavy...but, I didn't know what that meant" or "I looked up the maker after I received my spoon and he was in business in 1855, not 1854". Please use your own reference material to determine the age/authenticity. Look it up before you bid, not after you receive the item. I may be getting my information from a different book, or I may have made a typo, or I just plain might be wrong. Errors on my part are never intentional, but they do happen ~ afterall, I am human :) On occasion I add to my descriptions, please check for additions at the bottom of this page before placing  your final bid.

If you do receive an item that you aren't happy with, email me. I don't like to have unhappy customers, only happy ones. Check my feedback, I'm a fair and honest seller. Please give me the chance to fix the problem before you leave a negative feedback. I make my living selling on Ebay and when a customer leaves a negative feedback, that hurts my reputation (and my feelings :-).

Requests for refunds must be made within 3 days of receiving your purchase and items must be returned within 7 days of notifying me, in their original condition.

U.S. Shipping

I ship my items via the United States Postal Service. When I list a shipping rate, insurance is not included in the fee, it will be listed seperately. As sellers, if we give an insurance option, we have to give the rate when we post an auction. That means that we have to "guess" what the final selling price will be. Sometimes this amount is more or less when the auction closes. Please wait for my invoice (I generally invoice within 1 hour after an auction closes) and it will give the correct insurance amount.

When I invoice, shipping rates are given to customers assuming you are in the United States. If you're outside of the US, please see International Shipping below. I wrap very carefully (see my feedback comments). You will not receive your items wrapped in newspaper and flopping around in the box.  I prefer to ship your item insured, however you may elect to not have it insured.  If you do not insure your item, I will not take any responsibility for a lost or damaged item - no exceptions.  I will combine the cost of shipping if you win more than one auction... I am very fair on my shipping fees.

International Shipping

It is the responsibility of the buyer to pay duty/VAT tax. Please do not ask me to fudge on the custom's forms, this is mail fraud. I ship international items via the U.S. Postal Service. Shipping rates listed in the auction are for first class mail and do not include insurance (unless noted as such). I can't send an item first class if it is to be insured. I have to send it priority international and it will cost an additional $20.00 approximately (these aren't my rates, this is our post office rates...sorry!) I prefer to ship your item insured, however sometimes the USPS won't allow me to insure it depending on how and where your item is being shipped. OR you may elect to not have it insured (insuring packages going overseas is very costly to the buyer). If your item is not insured (due to either reason), I will not take any responsibility for a lost or damaged item - no exceptions.  I will combine the cost of shipping if you win more than one auction... I am very fair fair on my shipping fees.
