A pair of vintage menus from the famed LULU BELLE Gay Nineties Cocktail Bar & Restaurant in SCOTTSDALE AZ (THE WEST'S MOST WESTERN TOWN).Dating back, I suspect, to the 1960's or early 70's, this pair features a Luncheon Menu and a Dinner Menu from this celebrated saloon and eatery.
These menus harken back to the days when a Carlings Ale or a Ballantines Ale cost 50 cents, a Schlitz went for 35 cents, and an Old Overholt set the sipper back 70 cents.
On a tight budget? Lulu Belle's Favorite Luncheon could be ordered for a buck fifty, and featured Sliced Beef on an Onion Roll, as well as Soup or a Salad. For dinner, a complete Fried Arizona Ranch Chicken with Crab Apple meal with appetizer, salad, veggies and Home Made Rolls from the Warmer was only $2.75. Buttermilk rang up at 15 cents per glass, and a Flaming Lime Sherbert was 30 cents.
A series of period photos are featured on the back of the dinner menu, including a shot of Buzz & Mary Helen Dublin (the then-owners), and a pic of "Mustachioed bartenders, dispensers of hospitality at the Lulu Belle Bar".
Both large cardboard menus are intact, with no tears. Each sports faint food or beverage marks, but no handwriting or other damage. The dinner menu has a center fold, still visible, as it was obviously smuggled out in a purse or pocket, a momento of a delightful evening.
