Laos sarong or wrap-around skirt is the women's panung which have the particularities from the location for
example size, wearing styles, and the design pattern.
Laos sarong is one of the most pride of the Laos' women, in the early period weaving is a kind of the house
works, woman have the burden to do the weaving, mother have the task to teach their daughters to do the weaving till they get
the feel of its. Each female devotes months to weave the wonderful wrap-around skirt for the extraordinary situations such as
wedding day, ordain activity for Buddhism or the other traditional activities. Wearing wrap-around for Laos female is just
the way to showing of her expertness to other people, the most beautiful and outstanding Sarong is extensively reputed
admired by the villagers.
The size and pattern of the sarong depend on the skill, preference, and the way of life for individual area. It
also depend on the size of the loom too. The weaving of the narrow loom will be the results of the confined sarong. That is
the reason of the woven fabric connecting to make it wider for wearing. Resently, it has no reason to make the fabric
connecting since there are the wider size of loom for making sarong.
Laos Sarong's Components
The basic attributes of Traditional Laos Sarong can be separated into 3 parts as follows:
1. Sarong's Head: It is the top of the sarong, mostly using the plain fabric. some villages use the white fabric
for Sarong's Head and insert it inside sarong itself which can not be seen from the outside.
2. Sarong's Body: It is the main part of sarong, there is a few plain pattern for some pieces or using plain
fabric, but the pattern will not distintive one. The color will be all the same shade for this part.
3. Sarong's Base: It is the bottom of the sarong, it will be woven in the
outstanding pattern especially for this part only.
