Offered for auction is a lovely oriental textile finely embroidered with colorful silk threads on a piece of white silk. Framed and matted under glass, this little asian piece of art depicts a pair of exotic and showy birds-peacocks-surrounded by equally flamboyant flowers and greenery. In the upper left corner are Japanese or Chinese characters embroidered in black thread-I'm not sure if they are an artist's signature or the title of the piece, or some kind of verse. The tapestry measures 11 1/2" x 9" (and is probably slightly larger) inside its double matt of black (inner matt) and white (outer matt) and both the textile and the matts look to be in excellent condition with no stains, damage, or fading. In its simple black frame, the piece measures 15" x 17" and is ready to be hung and enjoyed. The frame does show a bit of wear with some scratches and scuffs-I imagine it could be touched up with some black paint-and two of the edges where the corners join could use a little glue as they are a bit loose. I purchased this piece as well as three complimentary pieces at an estate sale and was told that the owner had the pieces for a "long time" so that is all I can tell you in regards to age.
