You are bidding on a Zero 12" personal box fan, made sometime during the late 1960's or early 1970's by the McGraw-Edison Company, Bersted Mfg. Division., Boonville, MO. This fan is charming, and in "nearly-new" condition.
The features of this quaint fan are four polished aluminum "Mickey-Mouse-ear" blades, a box which is a lovely muted shade of slate-turquoise blue, a white grille, front and back, a white plastic carrying handle, a 3-speed switch (Off-Hi-Medium-Low), and the original power cord.
This is probably one of the most charming box fans I've seen, due in no small part to its 12" size. Stick it in a window, place it under a table or desk, it's convenient. Because of its vintage and because it's made of good raw material, this fan will last its new owner quite awhile, if properly taken care of.
The fan runs very, very well. Silent on Low speed and puts out a nice blast on Hi and Medium. The blade is completely in balance. There is no blade 'twang' sometimes associated with metal box fan blades because this fan is nearly new.
Check out the tag and speed indicator knob. The tag is crisp and clear and mirror-like in appearance - never scratched or worn. Those red flecks have since been removed. The white plastic carrying handle is still the same "new" white color, not yellowed, like old plastic tends to get. No signs of stress on the handle or any cracks in the plastic; it's still flexible.
The power cord and plug is original and in flawless condition, the black rubber is still flexible.
And a final condition indicator: look at the plastic nub-tab feet of the fan. Hardly any wear - these tend to be deeply scored and scratched from hard use. Not this one.
The previous owner had the original box for this fan but unfortunately threw it away, not realizing the box added value. Oh well. The paint condition of the fan is nearly flawless except on the rear white grille, where there is some minor paint wear, but nothing that obviously detracts from the impressive original condition.
This fan is of a much higher quality than new commercial market offerings. It will give you years of service with style as long as you treat it correctly. This is a vintage appliance which does conform to current electrical fan standard safety codes. Child accident-proof!
