The Novaculite stones are divided into four grades. Black Hard Arkansas, Hard Arkansas, Soft Arkansas & Washita. Each grade has a different degree of abrasive quality and sharpening ability.
Hard Arkansas is the best stone for final polishing of an already sharp blade. This stone is not used for fast sharpening of your knife but instead for touching up and finishing a sharp edge.
All Arkansas Hones oilstones are quarried from limited and delicate deposits of the mineral Novaculite, which is found only near Hot Springs, Arkansas.
