The cake recipe booklet for Baker’s Pure Vanilla is a full-color beauty featuring gorgeous and mouthwatering illustrations of cakes and sweets by Edward Gilman (his work is similar to modern artist Wayne Thiebaud.)  “All recipes tested by Home Service Department, United Electric Light Company, Springfield, Mass.  Use only the best ingredients with these tested recipes 1870-sixty years of flavor service – 1939.  Your guest can taste the difference – use Baker’s Pure Vanilla.  Add color and novelty – used Baker’s pure food colors.”  Great pre-war cakes like “White Fruit Cake, Down South Cake with Butterscotch Frosting, Anniversary Cocoanut Cake, Hot Milk Loaf Cake with Fluffy Boiled Icing, Fudge Cake with Mile High Frosting, Baker Richmond Cakes, and much more.  Small ad for Baker’s vanilla with photo of bottle and box with “new bakelite screw cap”  Code number rubber stamped inside in red.  12 x 7 3/4” open. 1939. The “how to use Baker’s Pure Food Colors” booklet is another full-color beauty with paintings by Edward Gilman.  It offers year round color schemes for Birthdays, Weddings, Fourth of July, Valentine’s Day, Thanksgiving, Halloween, Mother’s Day, Easter, Christmas, and St. Patrick’s Day   Instructions on how to use food colors for candy, frosting, cake batter, ice cream, beverages or ice cubes, frostings and icings, and of course, how to color easter eggs.  Only ten cents per tube, Baker Extract Company, Springfield Mass.  Small ad inside for Baker’s Pure Vanilla., and pencil marked code number 198-39 plus red rubber stamping code number.
