Item Description

You are bidding on a very old light weight white cotton lamp table scarf, 8" X 13", stamped for embroidery. The stamped design, on  one end of the scarf,  is of a basket of flowers, a large rose to be stitched in outline stitch dominating the basket with French knot sprays and greenery of outline/lazy daisy stitch. Around the basket swirls ribbon to be done in outline stitch. One long side and one short side is finished wih hand tatting. The hem is held in place with feather stitching. This piece is not without problems. There is a small hole in one back corner and another small hole close to the edge on the side with no tatting. There is also a small brown stain near edge of long, tatted edge. I have not tried to treat this stain and leave that to the buyer. If I were to work this piece, I would take a single strand of sewing thread and "darn" across these small  holes and then work a lazy daisy stitch flower to cover this blemish. I often correct minor problems with very old vintage linens in this manner in order to save and enjoy a vintage linen. It is such a shame to discard items of the past with all those memories of days gone and almost forgotten. I sometimes also work scattered lazy daisy stitch flowers randomly throughout vintage linen to camouflage small stains and spots. This piece is worth saving, especially because of the time consuming hand tatting. Many pieces I am listing today are very light weight and can be packaged together for mailing at low cost. I am always happy to combine wins for mailing to save buyer as much as possible on those dreadful postage costs. I was a buyer for many years before becoming a seller and still have the mindset of a buyer who objects to inflated postage to make profit rather than the bids a piece generates.
