This towel is made from heavy coarse weave ecru linen. A tulip/leaves is appliqued on this towel using bias tape. I remember (oh, how that does date me, doesn't it) when it was in vogue to decorate kitchen linens with various colors of bias tape. I was never very good at this technique; I could never get all to stitch smoothly with all raw edges neatly stitched in place. The maker of this towel did not have this problem, tho. She did a very good job of creating a lovely tulip with leaves using red/pink/green bias tape. She has managed to machine stitch the bias tape very neatly and very closely to the edges, getting all edges properly stitched under and in place. This towel is bordered on the sides with stripes of 3/4" green, with narrow gold stripes on either side of this larger green stripe. I almost missed it, but there is a small hole in one upper corner. This does not detract from the beauty of this towel when displayed folded, which is usually the way these towels are displayed. Also the bias tape stitched across the lower bottom of the towel, on one side close to the edge has frayed. This also does not show when folded for display. This is a very heavy towel that will give years of service, should you decide to use it in addition to displaying it in the kitchen for its beauty. | | |
